03. How Munro Verification Works
[01 IMPORT]
Connect Strava or upload a GPX or FIT file. Northing reads the raw GPS coordinate track from your activity.
[02 AUDIT]
Northing cross-references each coordinate point against the Munro summit position. If any point falls within 200 metres of the summit, the ascent is verified.
[03 RECORD]
Verified ascents are written to your ledger with date, summit name, and activity source. The record is private. No social feed.
04. Accepted Activity Data
- [STRAVA] Strava sync. Connect your Strava account and Northing imports completed activities. Post-hoc only — no real-time tracking.
- [GPX] GPX file upload. Export from any GPS device or app that produces standard GPX. Garmin, Suunto, Wahoo, and all major platforms are compatible.
- [FIT] FIT file upload. Direct upload of Flexible and Interoperable Data Transfer files from Garmin and compatible devices.

What is a Munro?
A Munro is a Scottish mountain with a summit height of 3,000 feet (914.4 metres) or above. There are 282 Munros, all in Scotland. The list is maintained by the Scottish Mountaineering Club.
Does Northing cover all 282 Munros?
Yes. The database includes all 282 current Munros with Ordnance Survey summit coordinates.
What if my GPS track didn't pass close enough to the summit?
If no coordinate in your activity falls within 200 metres of the summit position, the ascent is recorded as unverified. The raw activity data is retained. Verification is determined by the GPS record, not by user input.
Does Northing cover Munro Tops?
The current database covers the 282 primary Munro summits. Munro Tops are not included in the current release.
Does Northing work offline?
Northing performs verification post-hoc. It does not track you in the field. An internet connection is required to import activities and view your ledger.
